Even as a coach and spiritual guide, I find myself revisiting these habits—because the journey of self-awareness is a daily devotion, not a destination.
Let’s be real, even as a coach and spiritualist, I have moments when I catch myself operating on autopilot. I’ll be moving through the day, fully booked, fully engaged—but not fully aware. And when I finally pause, I hear my soul whisper: “Come back home to yourself.”
That’s what self-awareness really is—it’s the sacred act of coming home to you. And in a world that constantly pulls our attention outward, this inner return is revolutionary.
So today, I want to share five powerful habits that help me and my clients strengthen self-awareness and shift from surviving to intentionally thriving.
1. Pause Before You Respond
Whether it’s a conversation, a decision, or a thought spiraling out of control—create a sacred pause. That one-second breath before reacting is where power lives. It gives you space to choose rather than automatically respond.
Ask yourself: “What part of me wants to respond right now—my ego, my wounds, or my wisdom?”
2. Name What You Feel (Without Judgment)
Self-awareness begins where honesty lives. And honesty requires emotional vocabulary. Instead of just saying, “I’m fine” or “I’m off today,” try:
- “I feel disappointed because my expectations weren’t met.”
- “I feel tightness in my chest, which tells me I’m anxious.”
Naming emotions helps them move through you, rather than run the show from behind the scenes.
3. Check Your Narrative
Every day, your subconscious plays a movie in the background. The question is—who wrote the script?
Are you telling yourself…
- “No one listens to me.”
- “I’m always behind.”
- “I’m not doing enough.”
Catch the narrative. Then ask: “Is this the story I want to keep living?” If not, rewrite it.
4. Spend Time With Your Breath
Your breath is a direct portal to your body’s awareness. When your mind is spinning, drop into your body.
Try this:
Inhale for 4 counts → Hold for 4 → Exhale for 4 → Hold for 4
(Also called box breathing. It anchors you fast.)
Breathwork doesn’t just calm you—it reveals you.
5. Reflect Daily (Even for 5 Minutes)
You don’t need a 90-minute journaling session. But 5 minutes of stillness, where you ask:
- “What felt aligned today?”
- “Where did I betray my truth?”
- “What am I proud of?”
This anchors your day in reflection, not just reaction.
“Self-awareness isn’t a final destination—it’s a daily devotion to your truth. Even the most awakened among us must still pause, reflect, and realign.”
