Let me start with this:
I know it’s been a minute since I’ve posted an article, both here and on Substack. And to be real with you, it’s because I’ve been caught up in the very thing I’m about to talk about.
That never-ending rat race. The grind. The illusion of stability. The machine of Corporate America that doesn’t actually give a shit about the humans keeping it running. It eats your time, your energy, your creativity and then demands more while giving you less.
And while I’ve been deep in it, I’ve also been waking up to it. This article has been sitting in my soul for a while now. It’s not a rant. It’s a realization. One I think a lot of us are coming to at the same time.
So let’s get into it.
Most of us were handed a script from the moment we could walk. One that sounded safe. Familiar. Logical. Do well in school, get into college, take out some loans (but don’t worry, it’s an “investment”), graduate, land a decent job, build your credit, buy a house, work hard, and eventually, you’ll get to relax, retired, free, and hopefully still healthy enough to enjoy it.
It sounds fine, in theory. But here’s the thing: that script doesn’t work for everyone. And for a lot of people? It’s not working at all.
College: The Promise That Became a Pitfall
The college system was once a golden key. But somewhere along the line, it became a trap for many. It isn’t just the degree anymore. It’s the debt. The pressure. The fact that we ask 18-year-olds to make life-altering financial decisions with zero real education about money. Student loan debt in the U.S. has crossed $1.7 trillion. That’s not just numbers, that’s people who feel stuck before they even start.
To make it worse, universities are in bed with credit card companies. You’ll see booths handing out plastic like candy, promising rewards while quietly shackling you to interest payments that outlast your excitement. It’s not just predatory. It’s systemic. And it starts early.
Get a Job. Build Their Dream.
So you graduate. You enter the workforce. You find a job (if you’re lucky) and start climbing the ladder. But have you ever paused to ask: whose ladder is this? Because for many, it feels like building someone else’s dream. You give your best hours, your sharpest thinking, your creative power to a company that will replace you faster than you can update your résumé.
There’s nothing wrong with working for a company. But there is something very wrong with the idea that this is the only way. Entrepreneurship, freelancing, creating, inventing, building your own thing—those were rarely offered to us as legitimate options. We were taught how to comply, not how to lead.
Credit is the New Cage
“Build your credit” they said. And yes, credit matters. But what they don’t say is that the system is built to keep you just barely afloat. You’re rewarded for having debt, for juggling it well, for knowing how to play a game that was rigged before you ever learned the rules.
The truth? We’re raised to consume. To finance our lives with money we don’t have, to impress people we don’t know, while delaying the things that actually bring us alive. All in the name of being “responsible.”
What If The Real Responsibility is Alignment?
What if the most responsible thing you could do is actually honor your alignment? Your passions? The gifts that make you you?
Because when you’re aligned, when you follow what lights you up, money doesn’t become the goal—it becomes a byproduct. That’s not idealism. That’s data. People who work in flow states, who pursue purpose-driven work, are more productive, healthier, and yes, often more profitable in the long run.
We weren’t taught to follow alignment. We were taught to follow approval. To prioritize external validation over internal direction. But that’s shifting. Rapidly. And those who adapt, who question, who build their own definitions of success—those are the ones thriving.
It’s Time to Rewrite the Narrative
This isn’t just about quitting your job or ditching school. It’s about waking up. Getting honest. Looking at the scripts we were handed and asking: does this actually work for me?
Because if it doesn’t, it’s not your fault. You’re not broken. The system is.
And the good news? Scripts can be rewritten. Lives can be rebuilt. Alignment is not a privilege for the lucky few. It’s a right. A calling. And it’s available the moment you start questioning the story you were told and begin writing one that actually reflects you.
That’s not rebellion. That’s evolution.
How to Break Free From the Matrix
So where do you even begin when the life script starts to fall apart?
You begin by being radically honest with yourself, brutally honest. Not surface-level reflection, but deep excavation. It means confronting what you’ve tolerated, what you’ve normalized, and what you’ve convinced yourself is “just the way things are.”
Ask yourself:
- What parts of my life feel like obligation instead of genuine choice?
- Where do I feel misaligned, uninspired, or spiritually flatlined?
- What beliefs have I accepted that were never mine to begin with?
- When did I last feel fully alive—and what was I doing?
Then you start small. Because small is powerful when done with intention. These are the micro-rebellions that change everything:
- Learn something that excites your soul, not just your resume.
- Start a passion project or creative experiment with zero expectations—just joy.
- Unfollow people, pages, and platforms that feed self-doubt or consumerism.
- Reclaim your mornings. Create a ritual that puts your energy before your obligations.
- Set one boundary that honors your peace, even if your voice shakes.
- Stop apologizing for evolving.
Freedom doesn’t always start with a dramatic exit. Sometimes it begins with a whisper. A pause. A sacred no. A daring yes.
The moment you begin living in alignment with your truth, the matrix starts to lose its grip. You shift from being programmed to being present. From surviving to designing.
Because the system thrives on your forgetfulness. But the moment you remember who you are and why you came here—you become magnetic. Uncontainable. Uncolonizable.
You become a threat to the script.
You become free.
If this article lit something up in you, don’t let that fire go out.
