As this year comes to a close and the new one approaches we often find ourselves reflecting on the year, our experiences, our connections, the good memories we’ve created, and with this pandemic, many of us lost people we love. 2020 and 2021 were undeniably, life-changing to say the least. Many of us find ourselves searching for meaning, our purpose, and not surprisingly, want to make positive changes that bring us closer to our purpose. We want to connect with our loved ones, our passions, our joy, and what brings us happiness.
Sometimes our habits keep us in a place whether mentally, physically, emotionally, or other that isn’t really bringing us to that euphoric place we can be in. that’s why I am writing this post. To help us get there. see, sometimes it takes making big and small changes within us that create that euphoria in our lives. I put together some habits you should cut out of your life right now to help you connect deeper with your joy, your happiness, and YOUR Euphoria.

Habits to let go of.
Self-doubt:
Self-doubt will keep you in a mental, physical, emotional space that will make moving toward your dreams and your goals so much harder, it will lie to you and make you believe that you are not worthy or can’t achieve all that you are actually capable of achieving. The truth is, you are more than capable, you’re absolutely limitless. your potential is limitless.
Comparing yourself to others:
While we may have similar life experiences, The way we experience it is and the way it affects us is not the same. there are a number of factors. Our perception, circumstances, mental state, growth. Perhaps you are not exactly where you would like to see yourself in life, however, you have the ability to be there. it all depends on your mindset. Don’t look at someone’s life and envy what they have. instead, look at what you perceive as a “Great Life” and use that as inspiration to create your dream life that is true to you and your journey. for one, you don’t know what hurdles that person had to overcome to get where they are. and secondly, just because someone appears to have a great life and have it all together does not mean they actually do.
Negative Self-Talk:
This is critical. What you tell yourself is so important to your well-being, mental state, and how you feel about yourself. This also affects your environment, what you allow, the rules of engagement you operate with, and your level of success. What you tell yourself affects your confidence or lack of. This also determines how people interact with you professionally and personally. Your self-image is critical. What you tell yourself about yourself is literally creating your life. If you’re constantly telling yourself you’re not good enough, smart enough, not enough, unworthy, you are literally creating that in your life.
Imagine hearing a person tell someone you loved, they were not good enough, smart enough, successful enough or unworthy? You would probably jump to their defense and use a few choice words. This is what you do to yourself when you are giving yourself this negative talk. It is important for you to speak words of love, compassion, and kindness to yourself.
Here is a much better alternative.
Try to practice telling yourself these affirmations every day, as often as you can.
- I am worthy of a successful life
- I am intelligent
- I am creating the life of my dreams
- I am becoming the best version of myself
- I am attracting an abundant life
- I am successful
- I am more than enough

Taking things Personal:
Like the famous author, Don Miguel Ruiz says in his book The Four Agreements
“Don’t Take Things Personally – Nothing others do is because of you. What others say or do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim to needless suffering.”

What other people say or do is a direct reflection of their reality. You have no control over anyone else’s actions or opinions. What you can control is how you allow it to affect you and how you feel and/or respond.
Neglecting yourself:
If you want to find your happiness and joy, you cannot forgo your own self-care. You can not pour into someone else’s cup if your cup is empty. Make taking care of yourself a priority. Do things that fuel your happiness. When you think about activities that make you happy, what does that look like to you? perhaps it’s quiet time, watching Netflix, catching a comedy, turning on some music and dancing like no one is looking. or maybe it’s taking time to pamper yourself. whatever it is. DO IT!
Check-in with yourself, how do you feel? taking care of your needs is important to your mental, emotional and physical state.

Keeping Negative or toxic people around:
When I was younger, my mom would always say. “tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are”. and that rings true even today. The people we allow in our lives and keep around us, the environments. All play a role in how we feel and how far we go. If you keep people around you who are negative or toxic. It will reflect on you. It will keep you from growing and seeing your own potential. Even those people are family. you can love them from a distance and wish them well. you don’t have to be around them or entertain their negative conversations. If the conversation has nothing of value to add to you there is no point in having it. surround yourself with people who are growing, intentional, are engaging, bring something of value to the table.
